My journey in education began over 17 years ago as an English teacher. Transitioning to Isle of Wight County Schools brought me to Smithfield High School, where I started as a member of the English faculty. At various points, I have enjoyed certain extra-curricular student activities such as serving as literary magazine sponsor and senior class advisor. In 2004, I moved from the classroom to the role of lead teacher for the Packers. My responsibilities have been varied – from supervising and mentoring new teachers, to working with testing and data, to developing school improvement plans, and on to coordinating county-wide assessments.
I am proud to be a member of The Tribe, having earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in English from The College of William and Mary in 1997. My husband and I have four boys and enjoy living here in Smithfield.
As a testing coordinator, it is my job to make any testing at SHS smooth experiences for students and teachers. Testing can be extremely stressful for many students. Having a clear, well-organized process for any testing we conduct is my primary goal. I work directly with our guidance counselors, in that much of testing correlates to course selection, graduation status, and college/future plans. I also coordinate closely with our special educators to provide appropriate testing accommodations as required.
