SOL TESTING canceled for spring 2020, based on building closure for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.
The Virginia Department of Education implemented new guidelines last year regarding the number of SOL tests needed by students and rules governing who should test. As such, students may only take an SOL test if they are in need of the verified (SOL) credit -- unless testing is mandated by federal accountability guidelines.
Federal accountability for accreditation:
High school students must test at least once in reading, math (preferably Algebra I), and science (Biology).
Also, new lower verified credit requirements went into effect for the 2018-2019 ninth-graders. This reduction in SOL testing requirements does not negate the above federal accountability stipulation.
Your child's guidance counselor is the best source of information for diploma requirements, as they pertain to course and testing needs.
